I have long enjoyed watching Vampire movies and was eager to have a go at a vamp myself. On the hunt for some direction in style I went surfing the internet.

In this case I stumbled across some Cirque du Soleil pictures and decided I wanted to do something with that kind of shapes and colours. A general theme ended up in my head and I was ready to begin. During the work I also felt pushed more and more towards Venetian art, -masks and -costumes.

I also wanted to try using a really conscious kind of lighting. I choose an angle from above (and slightly from the left side of the image). As if she was under a spotlight, in the hope she would stand out from the background a little more and create a mysterious and intimate theatre atmosphere. I'm not really sure if that worked out, because it sometimes feels a bit awkward to me, but I have not yet found out why...

So if you have any ideas on that I would really appreciate hearing them...

Thank you for coming over here
Bye,

This fairy is collecting little hairs from animals to spin new threads for her clothing. But wandering around on the ground in a place where humans also dwell ... she is disguised as a mushroom...

That one hand holding the spindle was a horror ... that ... and the flowers in different blurriness...
Comments are as always much appreciated.

Hi all,

Have you ever experienced that all the questions you had just become quiet... they suddenly stop being important and fade for the moment. In return you find yourself being completely at ease, calm and full of inspiration.

This image is created in reaction to that feeling.

I hope you will like it for I really loved making it

I just love dragons and wanted to try drawing one myself. There isn´t any story behind it for it was just fun to try.

I´ve been working on it for a couple of months now (on and off). The hands were the hardest parts to make and I´ve used a lot of photo´s of my own hands as a reference (mirrors will only get you so far... and most of the time wrong angle).

Comments are as always very welcome...

Hi all,

It has been a very long time since my last post. I had some problems with my health and also moved to another country, but in the past two months I could draw again and made this Elaíne.

I really wanted to practise with cloth/dresses and such. I've visited Marta Dahlig and Linda Bergkvist pages a lot to see how they do something like this. I really love their work and style.

Marta if you read this ... thank you so much for your comments on my last piece (Lorcana). It really helped me in working with other, more daring, colours.

Comments are as always very much appreciated...

*hugs*

Ailin

Hello,

This piece started as a seascape: shoreline, water and a castle in the distance. But, it just didn't feel right so I started to erase a couple of things, and by doing that I found a new idea to work with.

I don't think I've ever worked longer on a digital piece, for it took me a couple of weeks, with non-stop days in it. Actually I've been a couple of times really close in tossing it away...
That hand holding the lantern was só difficult!

Especially because the position of the lantern and the hand didn't quite work out as I had hoped. So now it isn't anatomically correct, but I'm so happy with how it looks that I decided to let it rest...

The fairies came in at a later stage. From the beginning I wanted to place a fairy inside the lantern. But I found that it almost looked liked she was trapped in there. And the female holding the lantern (Ailin: which means Noble in Irish) doesn't feel like someone who would trap fairies, so that didn't fit in the image…

I decided on a different angle: What if the fairies were going to perform some kind of ceremony? For perhaps Ailin had to make an important decision and was unable to make it without the help and guidance of her small friends. So she picked up the magic lantern, closed her eyes and started to mentally call them and explain her situation…

I've tried to give each fairy a task or attitude that shows a bit of it's character. The fairy inside the lantern is innocent and pure and feels a bit like the young empress in The never ending Story. She is the first to answer Ailin's call for help, but is not quite sure how to do this. The fairy nearest to her is a more wise fairy, that starts with observing Ailin and her problem: she is the fairy who will listen, and think, before answering. Then we have the 'teacher' and the 'student' who is holding the ceremonial attributes. Well ... don't know if someone else would see it like me, but that is ok. In my opinion they interact now with each other and fit in the image.

For this piece started more or less as a light study and 'doodle'. I've used tons of reference pictures for the hands, face, lantern, arms, legs and such. But I can only show a few photo's here and because I found the hands the hardest (and don't want to show you pictures of my feet) ... I placed a hand reference in.

Thank you for viewing my work, and comments are always appreciated!
